I can't believe I've lived in this house for exactly 4 months and have not yet thought to unpack my Russian tchotchkes. Among these is my Matryoshka doll. I got it from a local artisan in Chita, and I chose this one specifically for the way it embodies my Russian experience: the colors, red and gold, and the musical instruments that I had seen and heard during the folk dance group performance.
Welcome home my little babushkas.
Welcome home my little babushkas.
Your blog is great! I'm subscribing on my Google Reader right now! I tried to catch up a little bit with some of the posts on top and enjoyed how your posts seemed to be a mix of very well-written tea reviews, interesting history, and pieces from a novel that you're writing. A nice variety that I'm sure makes for a nice daily read with some tea! From just reading the recent posts, there seems to be a Russian theme. I was wondering if you have Russian heritage, have a passion for Russian culture, or were perhaps just exporing the theme for your writing - or perhaps a little of all three?
ReplyDeleteThank you!I appreciate the compliment! My current Russian obsession is mostly a result of my research for my writing. I had the good fortune of visiting Siberia in the mid-90's and found it to be a fascinating place and people. I have no Russian heritage, but my sister-in-law's family coincidentally has roots in that particular region. I welcome feedback as I muddle through my ideas, so I look forward to more of your comments!
